The islands surrounding Sicily are some of the most extraordinary and least-crowded shooting locations in the Mediterranean. From the volcanic drama of Stromboli to the salt-white shores of Lampedusa, the white houses in Panarea and the windswept archaeology of Pantelleria, each island has its own distinct character and visual identity, perfect for travel photography, luxury brand campaigns, and film production. These remote Mediterranean islands offer a rare combination of beauty, atmosphere, and natural wonders, making them ideal for shoots that call for something visually arresting and truly unconventional.
For brands looking for something unique and unexpected, the Sicilian Islands offer untouched locations, unique villas, volcanic backdrops, and unspoiled coastlines that are incredibly hard to find anywhere else in Europe. Whether it’s for editorial fashion, lifestyle content, or destination videography, these islands are perfect for projects that demand a dramatic setting.
We have produced shoots across the Sicilian Islands for fashion houses, luxury brands, and editorial clients – managing all logistics, permits, and crew for some of the most remote and access-restricted locations in the Mediterranean
The Sicilian Islands attract fashion houses, luxury brands, creative directors and photographers who want to move decisively beyond the expected. These are locations where the landscape does the creative heavy lifting – active volcanoes glowing against a night sky, lava rock coastlines carved by centuries of eruption, ancient white dammuso houses rising from volcanic stone, white unique houses with stunning views, and seas so clear they appear almost retouched. There is nowhere else in Europe that looks like this.
The relative remoteness of these islands means fewer crowds, fewer restrictions on exclusive location access, and a level of visual purity that is increasingly hard to find. That makes them ideal for avant-garde editorial shoots, luxury campaigns, natural beauty photography, high-end travel content, and any production that demands an unconventional or dramatically cinematic setting.
Each island brings its own distinct visual identity. Stromboli offers raw volcanic drama unmatched anywhere in the Mediterranean. Pantelleria delivers windswept, almost lunar landscapes alongside its iconic dammuso architecture. Panarea is intimate and effortlessly elegant – a favourite for luxury lifestyle and fashion editorial. Lampedusa offers some of the most extraordinary water colour and coastline in all of Italy, rivalling the Caribbean in clarity and warmth.
Whether the brief calls for destination photography, luxury brand video production, fashion film production, or commercial campaigns that need to capture something genuinely untouched and visually arresting – the Sicilian Islands consistently deliver.
Island shoots require a level of advance planning that mainland productions simply don’t demand. Ferry schedules, hydrofoil connections, private vessel hire, limited on-island accommodation, restricted vehicle access, and protected natural areas all need to be locked in well ahead of shoot day. We manage every element from the initial location brief to the final day of shooting – drawing on established local supplier relationships and island contacts built over years of production work across the archipelago.
Island shoots demand more preparation than any other location we work in – and that experience is exactly what makes them run smoothly when they happen.
BEST SEASON May to June and September are ideal — accessible, warm, and with manageable tourist numbers. Some smaller islands have very limited accommodation and transport in peak summer.
ACCESS Most islands are reached by ferry or hydrofoil from Sicily’s ports (Milazzo, Trapani, Porto Empedocle). Panarea and Stromboli can be reached from mainland Calabria too. We coordinate all transfers.
SHOOT LEAD TIME We recommend 4-6 weeks for island shoots. Accommodation, boat hire, and equipment logistics need to be confirmed earlier than for mainland productions.

We also produce shoots across Sicily and the wider Mediterranean — explore Sicily mainland, Sardinia, Puglia, the Amalfi Coast, Malta, Iceland, and Copenhagen for more production destinations.
How much does a film or photo shoot on the Sicilian Islands cost?
Costs vary depending on the island, crew size, shoot duration, and logistics. Island shoots carry higher production costs than mainland locations due to vessel hire, equipment transport by sea, and limited accommodation – but the visual return and location exclusivity are exceptional. Contact us for a tailored quote within 24 hours: info@sicilyproductions.com
Do I need permits to shoot on the Sicilian Islands?
Yes. Filming or Shooting in protected natural areas, national parks, and coastal zones requires advance permits, and requirements vary by island. We manage all permit applications on your behalf, including drone authorisation. Allow a minimum of 3–5 weeks lead time for island shoots.
What is the best time of year to shoot on the Sicilian Islands?
May to July and September are optimal – reliable weather, calm seas, excellent light, and manageable crowds. July and August offer the best sea colour but bring significant tourist traffic, particularly on Panarea and the Aeolian Islands. Stromboli and Pantelleria are accessible for small crews year-round.
What logistics are involved in an island shoot?
Ferry and hydrofoil coordination, private vessel hire, equipment transport by sea, restricted vehicle access on some islands, and advance accommodation booking. We handle everything from the moment your team lands in Sicily to the final shoot day.
Can you arrange a full production crew on the islands?
Yes – we source local crew where available or coordinate transport of our mainland team. For larger productions we plan all crew and equipment logistics as part of pre-production. No island is too remote.
